Hi there!!
I am a mental health therapist and author. I've loved creating stories since I was a child, probably since the day I was told to write a Halloween story on a pumpkin and my story took up 13 pumpkins!
Becoming a published author was always a dream of mine. I love telling stories that explore hard questions, don't give easy answers, and demonstrate the real struggles of being human in a tough but beautiful world.
I believe that writing and mental health have a reciprocal relationship - writing improves mental health, and understanding mental health improves writing. Reading and writing help us process emotions, work through trauma, and identify what's important to us.
My first book, When Death Is Coming, won the Realm Award in the sci-fi category (woo!!!) and my second book, When Death Is Watching, is anxiously waiting its own pretty award someday.
I live in central Illinois with my husband and cat Minnie.
Things I love
Sushi, as often as possible
Crocheting! I'm proud of a sweater I made
Making a bee-friendly yard, helping the planet
Playing video games (ones that I am decent enough at to not die constantly)
Trying ANY new craft
Reading any kind of twisty, mind-hurt-y book
Learning, constantly - always reading some kind of non-fiction, typically related to trauma, therapy, or relationships
My faith and my church - I'm so thankful for a community that helps me grow and a God who loves unconditionally
Writing on trains and planes... anywhere
Drawing portraits of people and pets
Tidying my house frantically after letting it get horribly messy for a week straight
... probably lots of other things, but there's a good start!
